Where Does Cook County Spend Our Money?

A study committee of LWVCC has been working for many months on deciphering Cook County government, particularly its allocation of expenditures and employees. It is part of a larger project evaluating the transparency and accountability of Cook County government. The focus of the study was on departments that report to President Todd Stroger.

The results of the study in a document called Where Does Cook County Spend Our Money? will be distributed to the Commissioners and other elected Cook County officials as they prepare to discuss the budget for 2009. The report outlines inconsistencies and apparent contradictions in published documents, and notes areas where County information is opaque. This lack of clarity inhibits the ability of citizens to participate in improving their government.
